An ancient is an Immortal creature who has existed since before the birth of the current dominant races of the world; the Aeneski, Humans and so on.Ancients tend to be incredibly powerful as a result of their experience, magical powers and artifacts, or other reasons.
An individual creature may be classed as an Ancient, as may an entire race.
This term should not be confused with the Ancient Anshe; while they were a progenitor of the current Aeneski elves, they did not exist before themselves, and are now functionally extinct.
