Basilisk
The Basilisk is a large, amphibious swamp-beast with armored scales, multiple pairs of limbs, four eyes, and a great, crown-like crest of bone atop its head. Many people not familiar with the nature of the basilisk consider them dragons, but they are unrelated.
Young basilisks typically have only one pair of legs, with more developing as the creature ages; adults have four to six pairs of legs, upon which they skitter about like massive centipedes on land.
Basilisks are as dangerous as they are intelligent; those familiar with the creatures say that the basilisks mistakenly recieved the brilliance that the Silisks'god intended for them.
This intelligence makes them notoriously infuriating creatures to tame and train for riding, even hatched from the egg-- but several Silisk heroes of legend have succeeded at the feat.
Basilisks enjoy slithering about and sleeping beneath muddy pools of water-- which they will thrust their heads out of to slay and devour any creatures who happen to disturb them.
A basilisk's third eye is is a prized alchemical item as well as a dangerous weapon; the basilisk's gaze can strike a person deathly ill, inexplicably capable of incapacitating victims with a mere glance.
Silisk are notably immune to this effect.
