Fatis Mirajin

pronounce: fay-tis meer-uh-ginn

A miracrystal of allegedly gigantic proportions, the Fatis Mirajin is cited as the cause of many of Valenth's troubles as well as its scientific advances. Its creation, location, effects and creator are the subjects of countless legends and rumors, and its eventual destruction is the goal of at least two major world powers.

It was given its name along with mirajin, the raw element of dreams; however, it is generally now believed that mirajin existed first, whereas the Fatis Mirajin came later and changed the way the element interacts with the world.

Originally no larger than a human fist, the Fatis Mirajin was the product of an unsuccessful attempt at crafting a Philosopher's Stone, an essential alchemical tool.
Rather than destroying or discarding the crystal, Nefirian saw its potential, keeping it for use in later projects.

When it was young, the Mirajin only possessed enough power to change small objects or creatures gradually, and only with alchemical assistance.
Over time, however, the stone is believed to have begun to draw in mirajin from the surrounding area, feeding on it and amplifying its own power. It transformed the Dreamwaker and his two companions during this phase-- after which its ever-increasing power is said to have mutated and destroyed the people of their village and the flora and fauna of the surrounding area.

Thousands of years later, the Fatis Mirajin has only increased in mass and power. The Firestarters believe the crystal has upset the natural flow of the world's mirajin, causing widespread corruption and destruction as its aura spreads. Perhaps tellingly, the SRO avoids open discussion of the crystal and evades any direct questions regarding it-- but at the same time, the organization provides raw miracrystal to companies and individuals throughout the world, as well as awarding its members with depleted and processed mirashard pendants, known as dreamshards, as they rise in the rank.

The Mirajin's location is believed to be somewhere in Chimre or Mimore; the former country is full of mirajin-warped creatures, plants and even weather, while the latter has been closed off from public access and viciously guarded from prying eyes for ages.

Greatmother Opus is said to slumber curled around the Mirajin's base, serving as guardian of the crystal in the waking world even as she uses the Reverie to watch over and soothe the populace of Valenth.
