Masqued Swan
The Masqued Swan is Chimre's national bird; a species of long-necked white waterfowl with a distinctive curliqued black mask across its face and eyes.
Despite being widespread throughout Chimre, deliberately killing one is against the law in any circumstances.
As though they are aware of said law, masqued swans seem to go out of their way to be as obnoxious and threatening as possible to anyone who dares approach.
A large population of "tame" masqued swans lives in the courtyard of the Cathedral of a Thousand Roses, cared for (at a distance) by the castle gardeners.
