Varworg

Among the Aeneski, the varworg are known as the primordial children of the moon; an ancient race of creatures who take the form of both man and wolf.
Such monsters were created through ornate rituals during times of war, transforming the elves who surrendered to the ceremony into bloodthirsty forces of nature in the moonlight.

The powerful magic that created the varworg lingers in their bodies, cursing those who survive being bitten to transform into a monster in turn. Alchemical remedies for the varworg's curse exist; success depends on rapid treatment, however, as the herbs capable of staving off the curse are powerfully toxic to a fully-fledged werewolf.

All varworg are forcibly transformed under the light of the moon; they cannot revert to their humanoid form until the moon sets, or is blocked by clouds.
Transformed varworg take the distinctive form of a heavily-muscled, bipedal wolf. Their fangs and claws grow long and sharp, and their eyes glow in the faintest light. Any humanoid can become a varworg, and any varworg can spread the curse through a bite.
All varworg are wild and dangerous in wolf form, though their rage settles somewhat after a meal of fresh meat. The scent of blood whips all varworg into a frenzy, and the wounded are in grave danger in proximity of a werewolf regardless of their identity.

Varworg will often gather into packs for companionship and easier hunting. Organised varworg packs function nothing like natural worg packs, with individual varworg fighting among themselves for rank and a larger share of the pack's kills.

Solitary varworg may be found in the service of Viadante and their vampire minions, though the beasts are naturally wary of the undead.
