Vitae

Vitae is one of Valenth's Prime Elements, and is considered to be the element of life.

Vitae exists in a diluted form inside the bodies of all living things, both plant and animal, and slowly drains away as the affected creature or plant ages, fading completely at the time of natural death.
Long-lived species lose their innate vitae more slowly than those with shorter lifespans, while immortals continue to cycle a certain amount throughout their existence.

It is said that all vitae returns to the planet upon death, so that something new may be born from it in an endless cycle of life. It is a commonly-held belief that the planet's source of vitae is not an infinite resource.

According to the Firestarters, the planet's source of pure vitae is diminishing faster than it can be restored or purified. It is unknown how this would affect the cycle of life, but rumors state that the faction of naturalists may know more about the nature of vitae and its effects on the planet than is known by the general populace.

Pure vitae is a thick, teal liquid with a bright glow; when pure vitae reaches an appropriate point of concentration, it transforms into an ethereal, crystalline form.
Dilute forms of vitae can be harnessed in magic as a catalyst of growth, healing, and purification; though raw vitae is harmful, burning away first matter, then the soul before returning to the planet's heart.

Vitae corrupted by excessive spiritual trauma becomes twisted and rotten, transforming into the necromantic element of Morte.
